In many regions of the United States, the trend has been for families to switch from public to private school education for their children.
Summit Christian Academy in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, has definitely seen an increase in enrollment and taken positive steps to expand their facilities to accommodate the growth.
HMN Architects provided full architectural, interior design, and planning services for the school’s new classroom wing addition.
The new, 11,600-square-foot addition includes 10 classrooms, student restrooms, offices, and a student store.
Renovations to the existing art room were included in the project scope to provide a large display case that can be viewed from the new classroom wing corridor.
Also, a 60-car parking lot was added to accommodate the growth of enrollment numbers.
The building exterior was designed using the same brick, block, and glazing materials as the existing school building to nicely integrate into the campus aesthetic.
The interior materials are also similar to the current school and blend seamlessly into the rest of the building.
Natural daylight into the new classrooms and corridors, as well as the use of materials designed to control sound, add to this new learning environment.
The firm also completed the design and construction of a new multisport fieldhouse for the school.
Organized in 1989, HMN Architects is the result of the merger of two previously well-established Kansas City firms. HMN was formed with the express intent of developing a first-tier architectural firm dedicated to the Midwest, www.hmnarchitects.com.
